WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic violence is a behavior or a pattern of behaviors in which one person uses, or threatens to use, physical, sexual, verbal, emotional abuse or violence to control his or her partner. It is a pattern of abusive behavior that one person uses to obtain and maintain power and control over his/her intimate partner.

WHO IS AFFECTED

91 to 95 percent of all adult domestic violence assaults are perpetrated by men against their female partners, however anyone can be affected. Domestic Violence is a crime that knows no boundries. It transcends all barriers. No one race, religion, socio-economic class, age group or cultural population is effected more or less by domestic violence than any other.
Domestic Violence has far reaching affects. It effects those who witness it just as much as those who are the direct victims. Domestic violence is not a sickness for which we need a cure. Being abusive is a learned behavior. We all need to do our part in teaching our children and society that Domestic Violence is not ok. It is not just a family issue; it is a Crime.
