1.       Brighter Tomorrows, Inc. is a not-for-profit community based domestic violence agency providing an array of comprehensive services to victims and their families at no fee. Brighter Tomorrows, Inc. began raising funds in 1983 in response to the continued escalation of reported incidents of domestic violence. A 19-bed shelter facility opened its doors in 1986 providing 24-hour hotline assistance, information and referrals, case management, counseling and advocacy for Department of Social Services and Court appointments.

2.       In 1988, the agency expanded its services to include a Transitional Housing Program which at present, consists of  several scattered site locations located throughout Suffolk County. Transitional clients, while still accessing shelter services, are living independently with case management to assist with budgeting, permanent housing, continued education and employment.

3.       A Non-Residential Program was established in 1997 to assist those clients not in need of shelter but other direct serices such as advocacy and counseling. Advocates are available to assist clients with court issues such as obtaining an order of protection and custody.  The Non-Residential Program also offers support groups, individual counseling, a Child Witness of Domestic Violence Program, information and referrals.

4.       The agency is a licensed New York State shelter facility and contracts with Suffolk County to provide shelter, transitional housing and non-residential services.
