According to a National Violence Against Women Survey, 22% of women are physically assaulted by their spouse, partner or a family member during their lifetime. In the U.S. there are nearly 5.3 million partner victimizations each year among women ages 18 and older, resulting in 2 million injuries and 1,300 deaths.
Nearly 25% of women have been raped and/or physically assaulted by an intimate partner during their lives. That means that approximately 1 in 4 woman will at some point become a victim of a physical and/or sexual crime. It is estimated that 15.4% of gay men, 11.4% of lesbians and 7.7% of heterosexual men will be assaulted by a date or intimate partner during their lives.
More than 1 million women and 371,000 men are stalked by partners each year.
